As a future former marine I have handled my fair share of assault rifles and received weeks of training before I was considered to have even basic competence with one. On the other hand, the average civilian receives NO training at all yet they are allowed to simply run down to Walmart and come back with an assault weapon, no questions asked.
Just look at any other civilized nation that has banned guns. Australia and the UK all come to mind. They have improved vastly after they got rid of guns. We should do the same.
