Ukies started a counteroffensive in Kherson after disrupting Russian logistics for weeks beforehand and they implemented OpSec measures so everyone is saying it's a failure since the Ukies weren't talking about it from day one other than that it was happening. A few days into the counteroffensive (that the Russians claimed they had totally stopped on day one trust us) the Ukies around Kharkov saw that they could just bully the Russian forces there and proceeded to embarrass them with a wide retaking of territory.
its pretty obvious that any territorial gains made by ukraine doesn't bring them closer to victory since we are all paying higher gas prices right now and we will need to send them the bill sooner or later. since ukraine wont have the money, they will have to settle with land, so the longer this drags on the smaller ukraine gets. no one said war is pretty.

The withdrawl order makes sense from the perspective of what the russians employed so far in this war. They fell back to avoid a fight with a locally superior enemy and thus minimize casualties. On the other hand, the ukies came out of their holes and although the offensive was a tactical success they threw everything into it and even their best are badly battered from half a week of constant airstrikes. Was it worth it? Time will tell

I predict the Ukrops will attack somewhere in the south of Donetsk next. Russians have made zero progress there in 4-5 months. If they break through you could race straight for Mariupol and cut the land bridge to crimea and leave Kherson exposed. The drive is less than 100km I believe.
