The original was pretty hardcore and it kind of fits

Sigh, see . Trust me, I LOVE the original fairy tale, it is my all time favorite fairy tale (along with lil match girl), but the acutal substantial similarities between the original fairy tale and the disney movie are FEW. The themes, the characters and all but the the most basic story beats are totally different. If you don't consider the 90s cartoon and the fairy tale to be 2 entirely different stories then you just don't give a fuck about little mermaid at all.

If they follow the disney plot of little mermaid, then it is a story of white erasure.

If they follow the original fairy tale by Hans Christen Anderson, it is a story about a black woman torturing herself to death to get a white guy to fall in love with her but he still never finds niggers attractive.
