Nations cant support themselves nowadays with their own resources, this forces any nation who doesnt want to live in theXVIII century to trade, exporting and importing as much as they can ir order to sustain this overcomplicated indrustrial system. This make obligatory to have as good relationships with other nations as you can because any country with different religion, race, culture could have a vital resource your nation need so you have to be polite with the country and its people, thus ending in the "united we are stronger" I think.
