The issue is that they're losing not just random land and villages but important towns like Kupyansk and Izyum for reasons that could've been easily prevented. Defending in a city is as favorable as it can get unless you're completely undermanned. If anything they should have put up as much resistance as possible to stall the offensive.

It doesn't benefit the west. Many Jews in the department of state and the US government have business interests in Ukraine, because it's like a second Israel, which is why they are willing to throw US taxpayer money at it.
But look at the fairly mild reaction from countries like France or Germany to see that they don't really give a shit about Ukraine, which they rightly consider to be a slav nation exactly like Russia.
France used to sell military hardware to Russia until this year (and they probably still do actually).
