The visuals are not even close to as good. The cinematography sucks ass in the new one.

Just compare the original with its overhead battle shots, low camera angles during the fighting, orca falling off the mountain, the wave that flows down the mountain and crashes against the elven shields. Even the introduction of sauron makes him so menacing and powerful.

Then we have rings of power. Some static scenes where it shows some battle aftermath, a really lame overhead shot of what looks like a dozen people fighting, and morgoth or sauron looks like a dude standing in a room.
