Why do Liberals love to romanticize the Natives? They act as if they all lived in peace, and all was good and well, until the white man arrived. They think they did not participate in war, slavery, rape, or any of the bad things every civilization in history has participated in.

That could be a part of it, Natives did not have a written language and had to pass history down by word of mouth, while Europeans did.
