To think that Latin, the lingua franca of the old world, was still being taught in public schools just a generation or two ago, is almost unfathomable now to the illiterate, unlettered zoomer of today. The majority of the corpus of Western education, theology, science, and philosophy now lost to the winds of time; the average modern man never had a chance.

I regret everyday not being a polyglot. My Greek is so-so. My German and Czech is non-existent. I haven't thought about the others. A single modern Proto-Indo-European would be convenient.

I've been considering studying Anglo-Saxon or Gothic but idk yet.

No. My surname is low german, it was one of the languages that were suppressed in the 1800's. I think 4.5 million spoke it at the time, and it's down to 1.5 million now.

Franca = French.
