I ran a major internet forum for several years. Many shills - both feds and other groups - were constantly attempting to infiltrate the community. It wasn't always obvious. There were real people on the other sides of those usernames. But then you'd notice that certain talking points get brought up in a coordinated wave and all the hundreds of users that happened to be taking one side of the argument just happened to sign up in a period of 90 minutes on February 2nd and make exactly two posts before going silent until today. The shilling is real. Or maybe all the usernames started with two random English nouns followed by a three-digit number. Like RouteToast047. Or you'd get coordinated campaigns of people all using the same terminology or phrase which had never been heard before. The feds are a part of the problem, but there are many organizations battling it out to control the narrative. Once you learn to spot it you can't unsee it.
They are absolutely here and I wouldn't be surprised if they're actually the majority of the traffic. Here's a neat trick: Try visiting Any Forums at two different times of day both during the week and on weekends. You'll notice the board veers a lot more conservative late at night. It's not because liberals go to bed early, it's because several kinds of shill groups don't bother employing a graveyard shift.
