Any Forums's favourite Oak

For me it's the Turkey/Austrian Oak (Quercus cerris). Definitely political since Oaks were once religiously/politically relevant.

Wondering why no one has hybridised a Quercus cerris with a Quercus ilex?

Holm Oak is the superior choice of Oakwood. Doesn't split.

This is my kind of thread.

Around here, Burr Oaks are prolific, and beautiful. I always liked the way they would spread. It was always regal looking.

Has anyone here made coffee from acorns before?

What's it like?

I don't know.

The Golden Oak Library.

NOT THE HECKING OAK APPLES!!!!

I was about to post black jacks. Tough fuckers. Burn em down and they're back up next year. Never ate their acorns before, they look too small to bother with. Second pic is Chestnut oak, Quercus Montana. I have whole forests of mostly these near me and they're one of the best acorn producers. Problem is they're a white oak so they sprout quickly and are harder to store. 3rd pic is the northern Red Oak. A white oak grown in the open grows out and is wide, looks like a wise old tree. But a red oak in the open is a thick, tall collum. That's a mighty strong tree.

Did it with okra seed like the Confederacy did when coffee was embargoed. Comfy.

Now I want to make Acorn Coffee from Quercus x louisii (Louis's Oak).

I heard of a Hybrid Oak (Cross between English and Holm Oak) which grew back after being cut down after being damaged in a storm which killed every other tree. Hybrid vigour is not to be underestimated.

I'm collecting acorns to propagate at the moment.
Going to try do at least 50 then go plant them in the wild.

Oak is a fantastic wood. Stable and beautiful.

How do you go about propagating them?

I'm newer to the arborworld.

English Oak?

Pollinate the catkins then plant the acorns after they've grown to maturity.
