It will fail, but when it does fail it will be the rank-and-file full payees that will get raped the hardest as schools reduce services, increase tuition, and dismantle their operations as the amount of new students reduce to cash only ones.
Most states are already responding to this by making some amount of college free or virtually free if you can fill out the necessary paperwork. California in particular, due to the affordability crisis affecting their colleges much more severely. Eventually this leads to full free schools again as we had in the 1950s or no public schools at all.
If the banks go bust on student loans, they take *your* deposits. That's because *your* deposits are used as collateral for these loans when the bank wraps them into securities. Just as they did with similar subprime home loans. If you fuck over other people in this, you will find yourself at an ATM unable to withdrawl money and having to ask the FDIC for script. No, what you do is require better education of children in high school who are looking to go to college. You educate then about the trapfalls of higher education, and try to steer them towards useful degrees at good colleges. A college has every right to rip rewards off just like any other business.
