Not always but insofar as there's a pattern it's because a lot of life is luck. Actually, luck is necessary AND can be sufficient for success. Talent, intelligence, and other positive characteristics push the odds in your favor but they are neither necessary nor sufficient. It makes sense that what isn't there to inherit doesn't exist. In contrast, how often does this happen to old money? Aristocracies degrade over much longer periods of time because they formed through merit.
