No it wasn't. In the 2000s, I was going through hard times and there was no incentives that came with living under the bush administration. I was going in and out of rehab cause of my drug addiction but this could just be a problem that is only applicable to myself and a couple others who were in the same situation as me.

During that time new technologies and newer or more recently revolutionized branches of the economy were smaller and had less corporate oversight. Where today we have one parent company for hundreds upon hundreds of corps under it, back then things were smaller scale. A free market calls for that healthy competition of multiple sources of product for consumers. Back then there was enough. One company with limited sets of policies and expectations for outputs. Some of it also has to do with going to outside contractors noawadays because where there are now unions there used to be dedicated groups of people. There still are just many major entertainment firms hire low salary outside work rather than having studios and the difference in what consumers get is huge.

The whole free market needs competition and now there isn't enough thing applies to all parts of the economy, but media/ entertainment especially. If pic related, then those more niche voices/sounds/bands like evanescence and the other great music from that era that wouldn't rise up today in huge part for not fitting a mold decided on by most major label corporations for what works. But imo back then there wasn't a formula. You had Amy Lee from evanescence sitting next to Paris Hilton and the ad was for a video game console. Times were wacky.

There are now machinations that put formulas in place, whether they work or not. They are conglomerate companies.
