Reminder that Alberta alone has a bigger oil reserve than Russia

Alberta alone has a bigger oil reserve than Russia, and Canada has the 4th biggest proven oil reserves in the world. Despite that, we still import 718 thousand barrels of oil per day.

If our government didn't hate us we would be not only energy independent, but we could have been one of, if not the richest countries on the planet, but also have powered Europe and America without any fear of Russian cutoffs.

If a grandma had a dick she would've been a grandpa

Yes, but not even close to the infrastructure Russia has.

I know, and it's a shame. We could have built that infrastructure, even having it 20 years ago would have paid for itself 100x over by now.

They spent a ton of money producing it before the 2008 crash, then stopped because the cost of getting it out of the oil sand production price / barrel was not worth it anymore

Now price is high again but if it falls once more in a few years then the industry will again get kneecapped and waste their money. So they don't bother

Peak Oil is real

The recovery efficiency of surface mining tar sands is estimated at roughly 90 percent, so it's really not that bad, especially considering Saudi Arabia, also has a shitton of tar sands, yet look at how much money they bring in from said tar sands.

it's not about efficiency, it is about price / barrel. Even with established infrastructure it was costing them more / barrel to produce than the price / barrel at the time. Getting better infrastructure can improve the price of production but only so much, you still have to get it out of the sand which takes too much time and resources. Saudi arabia is not a good comparison because they have plenty of conventional fields, not just tar sands

we are gonna be great once we cut off canada.

Did some research, and speaking of Saudi Arabia and Alberta, Saudi Arabia is buying shares of Alberta's oil sands. A fucking foreign government is more willing to invest in our oil fields than our own government.

There’s plenty of pipelines on the books, waiting to get built. Coastal Gaslink and Transmountain are under construction. Eagle Mountain kicks off in 2023, followed by Pacific Trails in 2024. This will light up natgas drilling in the Horn River, Montney and Duvernay formations. Huge amounts of drilling required. I’ve seen plans for pads with 36 wells on them, waiting to be drilled.

How are Canadians so fucking brain dead?

Canada owes us reparations. Pay up nigguh

perhaps the cost of oil production is high and it is profitable to extract it if only oil will cost $ 150 per barrel.
