It's a huge energy hog. The internet itself is another electrical grid built next to the existing one. It's the last large scale technology developed, it's going to be the first thing to go. Internet just won't be operationally sustainable at all since it must "always be on".
In a shrinking energy foot print it's not a technology itself that's the issue, it's the sheer rediculious amount of dependencies just to keep it running.
And it's mostly held together with duct tape, cum, spit and twine. Internet wasn't planned, it was cludged together. I admire your hopeful attitude but cuts will be made regardless of the desire to keep the technology during the upcoming black out phase.
