Police have arrested a 20-year-old man suspected of beating 25-year-old transgender Malte Cramer to death at Cristopher Street Day in Munster, Germany.
Nuradi Abacarov of Munster is accused of manslaughter. The magistrate on Saturday ordered the 20-year-old to be remanded in custody on suspicion of assault causing death, according to police and the public prosecutor's office.
The incident occurred last Saturday when 25-year-old Malte Cramer, the victim, was celebrating Christopher Street Day in Münster with thousands of other people when he rushed to the aid of several female spectators at the parade. As witnesses to the situation reported, the alleged perpetrator allegedly insulted the group of women in a homophobic manner with the words "lesbian whores". When the victim confronted the disruptor and stood protectively in front of the women, Abacarov allegedly abruptly punched him in the face.
Before the victim lost his balance, he was hit by another punch, according to the police. The victim then hit his head on the asphalt.
On Friday morning, the responsible police finally announced in a press release that the 25-year-old had succumbed to his serious injuries in hospital. The body was to be autopsied on Monday.
