They'd take a hell of a lot more than a few months. Based on spending thus far, a little under 2 years, give or take a few months. None of that matters though, because Westerners are so weak in every way that many European countries will buckle under a a fraction of the hardship, and Americans could turn it into an inner issue large enough to cut off support.
If so, it would be a short term solution to an inevitable conflict that would just ensure once it finally reaches a point we can no longer pussyfoot around, it will be considerably worse and harder for us. But we're in the informational age of decadence and no one has the observational skills nor the strength to realize this let alone do anything about it.
If it ever gets documented in the history books it will look about as stupidly obvious as the Appeasement era starting from the invasion of Georgia in 2008 or so, but I guess in the moment that is very hard for people to see, especially with our god awful attention spans.
