Al Gore knew about the shifting magnetic poles a long time ago - as does NASA. The solar cycle has an 11 year small cycle - a few hundred year medium cycle and several thousand year long cycle all rolled up in its heartbeat. In simple terms this cycle is basically its energy output.
Now we all know weather on earth is primarialy driven by the suns energy - on that we can all agree. But the AMOUNT of energy which is at play is massively dependent on: a) the suns output b) the earths defenses against solar radiation which fluctuate interestingly according to the suns output. which is logical because earths a magnet itself (why a compass works)
