They're getting pretty cocky and loose with these vaccines. The newest one that just got FDA approval and will get CDC recommendation later this week hasn't even been tested on humans for efficacy. It's approved on the basis of eh, sure it probably works just take it.
In animal trials it produced Omicron BA antibodies in 8 mice and that was good enough apparently. No proof of what it does to human, no proof it prevents disease in humans or animals. This is the standard now for drug approvals now I guess.

yeah but the time to force that would have been last winter or even this summer. it's going to be too much a rug-pull to the neutral and even many pro-vaxxers to have their status rescinded. the authorities know this and are trying to maneuver delicately. look at how quickly they gave up on masks in airports/on planes. trying to enforce that rule again would just lead to mass disobedience. it's hard to underscore just how many covid restrictions were the kind of things that could only be done once ever and now they've burned through civic trust. this fact alone is probably deeply terrifying to many bureaucrats
