Pretty simple, conservatives hold no actual values other than "keep things the same." As the world began to change and their political policies became less applicable they pivoted to cultural problems, dragging in things like abortion, gays, etc. etc. So now all conservative policy is "prevent social change that I dislike" and now anything that advocates some level of changing anything is automatically political since it counters some "deeply held conservative belief"
