Why isnt anyone talking about the key characteristic of electric vehicles?
THEY ARE COMPLETELY TRACEABLE AND CAN BE CONTROLLED BY THIRD PARTIES.
Police chases will be a thing of the past. If they know your personal ID, which could be anything from the license place to your name and address, or even a live action GPS map with all the cars on the road you can just press whoever you want on the map and "shut it down"
Police will have tools that can remotely shut down ANY car.
They can even remotely enforce speed limits by forcing your car to drive a certain speeds in certain areas.
Hell, they could even put whole cities in total lockdown by selecting a county or district and pressing a "remove driving privileges for this population" button.
Remember, driving is a privilege, not a right. There is nothing that can prohibit them from doing this.
They can also enforce people to tie down their cars with their fingerprints as to "curb down on car thefts". If someone else has to drive the car, the owner of the vehicle has to approve it first, and it will always be temporary. That way, your name will HAVE to be tied to to a certain vehicle one way or another.
This is why the electric car push is happening. Total population control.

Not for a long time. The laws don't actually say "drinking and DRIVING" they say "impaired" and "operating" - prosecutors will undoubtedly say that even though you aren't driving the vehicle, you are the operator.
For a long time, there will be edge-case situations where the operator is expected to take control at a moment's notice. Therefore, you can't be operating the car while impaired.
I have a model 3 and it's pretty good - I know it's gotten me home safely after I drank too much. But it's not perfect. If there's something in the road it will run right over it, for example.

More electric parts on it, the harder it is to modify. I can rip out a computer and a sensor or 2 and the car will still work just find but that's not the case with electric cars. Their software and hardware is completely dependent on each other.
