however, good luck trying to get rid of tiny sand grain that act like sandpaper when you try to wipe them off, that are electrically bounded to the pannels, that are only there because you were too stupid to build your farm anyways except a moving dune, and too lazy to make any sort of countermeasure to the sand. Way worse than snow, in every way.

The crescent dunes solar energy project(op pic) was a failure, the company that ran it went bankrupt and had to be taken over by the department of energy. The cost of electricity was upwards of 5 times as much as even a shitty regular solar farm.

Also the molten salt tended to leak.

It's cheaper and quicker to build renewables, so utilities can hit their ESG goals faster. The Plant Vogtle expansion in Georgia expansion has been a disaster that's taken years longer to construct and gone billions of dollars over budget. Westinghouse, the reactor manufacturer, had to file for bankruptcy because it's been such a fuck up.

Thanks to Vogtle, Summer in South Carolina, and Crystal River in Florida all being failures, nobody in the utility sector wants to attempt to build another large nuclear reactor. For now, there's a rough plan to maybe try building smaller modular nuclear reactors based on what's in submarines, but those are maybe 10 years out.

IT's called a trough solar thermal power plant, it uses solar reflective troughs to focus the suns heat onto a coolant pipe (filled with oil,) and it transports the heated oil into a boiler to produce steam.

The BEST part about this power plant, is that since it's a thermal steam plant, you can add a gas or coal burner onto it, to produce electricity through either free sunlight, or during the night and darker seasons, just use regular burnable shit to produce electricity.

There was a problem with the concrete in a cooling tower that caused cracks to form over time. Something like the sand used during construction was slightly different than what the engineers had assumed during the design. Once cracks started appearing there were concerns that they could eventually start causing bigger problems, so the plant was decommissioned and replaced with natural gas.
