Free market is not synonymous with capitalism. Capitalism is a marxist abstraction that includes free markets, but also includes just about everything else too. Maoist china was communist in the sense that communism was the goal, but it was state capitalism as a means to an end. State capitalism is not an oxmoron, the US right is just dumb and decided to let marxists define them. I will never understand why the US right has such a sentimental attachment to a slur their enemies created for them. And they looked like that for a couple of days tops, after which the system completely recovered. If leftists were going all in on covid as a way to collapse the system then it backfired horribly. Before covid my opinion was that the system was a fragile inefficient mess. Watching the system completely recover from a total global shutdown in a matter of days forced me to re-evaluate that position. I still think the people running the system are evil and need to be removed, but the covid meme has forced me to accept that the system itself is a well oiled machine and isn't anywhere near as fragile or as inefficient as I once thought.
