A cursory look of the events will tell anyone he wanted her taken off life-support from the start, and that he got, comparatively, fuck all from the lawsuit most of which he put towards her medical expenses. My uncle was dying of ALS a few months back, and he said he didn't want to be hooked up to feeding tubes and IVs and stuff just to be kept alive while immobile.
So the doctors told him that before he's immobile he has to pop some suicide pills and he still has to be able to swallow and drink water.
When the time came, they brought him the suicide pills and he said he wasn't ready. I felt for the guy, it's awful being backed into a corner like that.

So he said just don't give me food or water, which is actually the medically accepted approach to this - insane, I know. So he sat for three fucking days denied food or water, and didn't die. Turns out if you're not moving or doing anything, you don't really expire that fast.
Poor fucking guy.
So at some point he asked for food and water, but they were like "you specifically requested this, you've got to realize what you're doing when you ask to be kept alive in this state"
And they were right, he was just delaying the inevitable. He asked them to bring him the pills instead. After that long, when hungry, thirsty, etc, it's a kind of torture. He asked for help bringing his hand to his mouth, and help massaging his throat to swallow.
Letting someone starve or die of dehydration is terrible. And even a person who wants to live will choose death over another 24 hours of starvation.
