It’s actually a bigger problem in the used car market. Because in most areas of the US people rely on their cars to get to work, there’s going to be a gigantic domino effect from this bubble bursting. First massive numbers of people’s cars are going to get repossessed. Then because of that lack of transportation massive numbers of people are going to lose their jobs all at once. And then after THAT people aren’t going to be able to make rent or afford food. These things hit all industrial sectors, that’s how recessions work

You should be more worried about food security than a car. The EU will have a vastly reduced capacity to grow crops as of next year, unless the Ukraine war concludes. The USA exports a tremendous amount of food as well and has also been hit by fertilizer shortages. You can be absolutely certain that next year you will be paying far more for basic foodstuffs, as the Democrats are causing inflation on purpose so that the middle and lower classes will have no economic muscle to flex against the government anymore. The days of plenty are over, and what's coming will more resemble the Depression-era mixed with Mao's Great Leap Forward. A car will be a luxury, next to a gun and the will to protect those you care about.

Bought my Oldsmobile beater for just 700$ in 2019. At that time slightly better beaters with at least 10 years of life were going for 3k and something comfy and newish would be about 8k. Now a beater like mine goes for 3 to 5k, a better beater is 10k and a comfy newish used car is 20k to 30k.
