There is a good chance that the Romans killed Jesus and then framed Judas and then suicided him. Was he acting alone? We just want so badly to believe that Judas did it since he is portrayed as so ugly of a stereotype.
Pontus Pilate did wash his hands, but couldn't he just have put on a show of neutrality? After all, Jesus wished to liberate the Israelits.
And there is further logic to this notion, since the Pharisees sucked up to Rome so badly, they wouldn't have condemned a man that the Romans said did nothing wrong. Could the vote results have been doctored and the crucifixion false-flagged? On the image Judas can even be seen sniff Jesus Brandon-style.

Not to be unpleasant or anything, but I take the whole "Bible is the word of God" with a grain of salt. The Romans are know to have dominated the Jewish and pass on their dirty work to them for a couple of millennia by now.
