On map Taiwan is next to China. Politically and culturally Taiwan has since about 1980 re-joined China. Economically Taiwan holds "the high ground" in every city and (remaining) factory in USA.

China is in bad shape economically, though this can be dealt with if they play their cards right, perhaps even turned in to a positive if they are *really* good at it. China's bigger problem is it's demographics.
