Russia chose to be in WWI, hell Russia is basically responsible for WWI. The Soviet Union included Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Poland; More than enough fertile land for staples and cash crops. The United States only has "perfect geography" because we overcame all the bad parts through capitalism: The South was basically unusable for modern industry until air conditioning and modern medicine, the Northeasts' rivers are managed with excellent bridges and canals, and the West is heavily irrigated. I'm not saying we weren't better positioned than the Russians, but they would have been way further ahead staying the course with the Liberal Kadets.

Since any discussion of geographic advantage is based on past experience, and since the only nations with the exact same geography are those same nations, the entire discussion is circle-jerking nonsense. There are many nations with fertile land and good climates which aren't as wealthy as we are, and we're only "away from threats" because we subdued, and later cooperated with, our neighbors. And this is ignoring the Soviet Union's benefits, including literally half of the Warsaw Pact nations. If the Soviet Union had won, there'd be "Ameriboos" online talking about how the USSR was much larger, had access to more fertile land, had a ton of natural resources, were closer to the European powers, etc.

Shit comparison. The natural conditions of Finland are far worse since Russia has, at least, some warm areas and unlimited oil. And enemies were stronger compared to Finlad's own might. And Finland is ablousultely ok while ex-Soviet stated are fucked up.
Also, instead of reparations and territorial gains after WW2, Finland had to pay up and cede some lands.

To go a step further, it wasn't really even an invasion. Most countries were sending a few thousand men whose purpose was to provide foreign aid to beleaguered civilians. Nobody thought those one thousand Australians were going to defeat millions of communists.
