It's nearly unfixable. Many problems are easier to prevent than to fix. We could have prevented this by seeking out more natural gas partners, getting more LNG infrastructure up, maintaining and building out our nuclear plants, running more industries on renewable energy. Instead we had a balanced energy mix and then decided to cut out a big chunk of it, without ever thinking what we'd replace that chunk with. It's pretty retarded, and now we see that Trump was right and that America should do their utmost to remain energy independent. Unfortunately Europe can't become energy independent in the long term, it's too small and too crowded.

You had the answer in hand all along. Use nuclear power to supply your base load, add in hydroelectric where possible, coal fired plants for surge loading, cheap natural gas from the North Sea. Any retard could have made a workable plan.
