CERN means "le centre europeen pour la recherche nucleaire", it would be spelled ECNR in english, european center for nuclear research (once again, CERN is french, even the acronym is in french)

the GCH was created to study high energies, and the way it was done is with high speed collision, because you can store energy in kinetic energy

The GHC is probably on the "waste of money" end of things just by how big it is, but it's not completely a single purpose machine, yes you can use it to accelerate single particles to very high speeds, BUT, you can also use it to accelerate entire beams of particles at lower speeds, you can smash protons in front to front collisions, but you can also insert chemical reactor chambers inside the path of the beam

China even has some trains synced up to the rhythm, but I doubt they have much impact. They want to make the “colliders”bigger so it will go more quickly, but the movement is slightly unpredictable because of the irregular shape of the earth; it makes it hard to know where to build the next one every time you make a new one and they have had to abandon some of the projects.
