This is actually true if you finish your 4 years in college with a masters in math or CS. Doable if you study through summers. University of Virginia has program I went through to finish a math BS and masters in 4 years. I started at 115k with a defense contractor.
55k sounds about right for non-STEM degrees, and about what my wife was paid her first year as a music teacher.

I went to 3 different colleges (went away, didn't like it, transfered to community college for an associates than a better one for bachelor's). All 3 of them told me I'd be making 6 figure right out of college.
First real job out of college, made 45K a year. Felt poor and this was almost 15 years ago. People making 50K and expect to live their dream life in the big city....not gonna happen. Enjoy your pod life and never having a family.
