Shit doesn't work that way. They're buying gas from elsewhere which raises gas prices globally which means Putin is just selling the gas for an even higher price to other places.
They're just ruining the entire global economy in the hopes that Russians who have been poor for a million years will care

Yes, but the point is for Europe to become independent of Russian gas for decades to come.
So when the next Russian president decides to annex Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, half of Finland, Poland, the Czechs and the Slovaks (Hungary will have sold themselves voluntarily like the whores they are), at least we won't have an energy depedency problem in the next war.
