Russia as a country is objectively in decline, it's demographics are terrible and unlike the developed economies it is surrounded by it does not have a healthy value-added economic sector for workers to transition towards to help offset the revenue and production collapse that will follow. This war has already cost Russia her honor and her freedom, and when it loses (and it will lose, its gross excesses and threats have left NATO with no choice but to ensure defeat or face existential crisis), it will shatter her dreams. Any notion that Russia be able to make a comeback, to rejoin the Great Powers, will die with the last Russian soldier in Ukraine. A nation can with time, recover from almost any material and even demographic loss, but it cannot recover from having its spirit broken.
