The solution isn't more government, but less. Get them to stop guaranteeing student loans, so kids can declare bankruptcy, and watch the price of college plummet, because no fucking bank is gonna give an 18 year old tens of thousands of dollars when they have no credit history, no collateral, and nothing to seize if they declare bankruptcy.
Think about it: even though banks can insure cars against loss and seize them in the event of bankruptcy, no bank will lend an 18 year old with no credit history 60k for a Porsche or a Tesla, because they deem it to risky. Meanwhile, they are perfectly ok with lending double that in student loans to the same kid.
