i worked on the bernie sanders campaign and was loosely associated with local DSA/lefty groups and the local ROTC and national guard kept sending guys to try and infiltrate us, they were all retarded zoomers who couldn't keep their stories straight and it was pretty funny. the most interesting part about it was the fact that they had a pretty impressive supply of very high quality drugs (lsd mdma cocaine DMT) that two of them tried to sell us, then when we declined for obvious reasons, to just straight up give us. i assume they were trying out for an internship position in army intelligence or some other spook agency or something.

in q1 2022 my city (northern midwestern college town of about 100k with a large and growing ghetto composed of chicago transplants) dramatically expanded its CCTV camera network, previously there were usually 1 or 2 cameras per block at the intersections in the worse parts of town, but now there's 3 or 4 cameras on each traffic light or lightpole in the ghetto and at least 1 on most blocks throughout the rest of the city, which must have been a huge investment on the order of millions of dollars.
two relevant datapoints: a) my city was selected as an IBM Smart City about a decade ago, supposedly for a data-driven green energy initiative but now it seems clear that it was also policing-related and has primarily manifested in increased surveillance
b) a good friend of mine is a reporter for the local paper and told me about being invited to the control room/signals intelligence control center for the local police department, which is shared with the county sheriffs and visiting feds, and the data also sent to regional federal building/fusion center. he described it as a "room made of cameras" with automated license plate tracking, all queryable and searchable. the cop on duty when he was visiting showed off the capability by tracking one car across cameras as it drove across town, both visually and via license plate trackers.
