why did liberals become pro war? fact is, NATO serves no purpose post USSR other than to antagonize russia. our attempts to get countries bordering russia into NATO is an aggressive act. It is no different than the USSR putting nukes in cuba.

Countries in Eastern Europe are generally shitholes, but at least they still have some semblance of culture. But I won't delude myself with things like "Russia is the greatest country in the world" or "Russia will save the white race" and so on...

Because everyone that isn't sympathetic to donbass either hasn't been paying attention or have the long term memory of goldfish. I will remind everyone here that this war is not ukraine vs russia. Its ukraine vs ukraine being aided by russia. The separatists have very good reason to want to separate, this gave russia limited legal grounds to conduct operations in ukraine. They may have ulterior motives for wanting to help the separatists, like denying ukraine entry to nato and potential access to purchasing NBC weapons. That doesn't really matter when the west was grooming them for this in the first place, attempting a last ditch checkmate to get first strike capability on moscow in response to russia's successful hypersonic missible program.

The usual rebuttal for that is there are countries in nato that can host nukes just as close to russia. Those countries cannot and would never try to acquire nuclear weapons because they don't want war. They don't want to risk being struck pre-emptively, as moving nukes around in such a way would provoke. This is exactly what we groomed ukraine to do, they now suffer the consequences for it. No one else is insane enough to repeat that mistake just for western money. Its easy to dismiss russia as a threat from an ocean away, but the people living right next to them are not so ignorant.

Russia is nationalistic and their reason for invading Ukraine is in the interest of their own sovereignty. The US and EU were told many years ago this is what would happen if Ukraine was to join the EU. They are effectively part of the EU now that they were submitted, though the paperwork never finalized, and the US and EU have done nothing besides arm Ukraine and extend the length and death toll of the war. Now who do you think is more corrupt here?
