German anons, I have a question why are eastern german looked at with such disdain by their western countrymen? is it because they were forced into communism? because they're poorer? I've noticed this anger for them, despite them preserving and celebrating local traditions, while the western counterparts from my experience are more likely to say things like "if a refugee can speak german, I think he's german now"

I quite like Germans, whenever I’ve been there they have been nice.
If ever I’ve been on holiday is Brits and Germans seem to form a group.
They were our enemies for almost 50 years, their dialect sounds weird and yes the fact that they are poor due to socialism /communism plays also a role. Especially for the first 10 years after the reunification they were considered second class citizen. Many people in the poorer areas in West Germany are also angry that the government invested billions in the East while streets and other infrastructure in their communities rot away.

I'm sure getting cleaner roads, upgrading eastern trains and infrastructure takes priority over few regions in bad shape(though I understand their frustration)
