the salt water is also very harsh on filter media and the plant itself, it would be mega expensive in just upkeep and changing out filters constantly for that population size. but hey, not my fucking problem.

this is actually something i am familiar with. desalination plants are actually extremely destructive. just think...all the water and minerals being pumped back into the ocean at the same rate as water is being removed. it would KILL everything around it. to make it "effective" they would need to process the minerals and salts, instead of dumping it back into the ocean.
however that WHOLE southwest section of the US needs to get their head out of their ass. either A- build desalination plants and or figure out ways to get fresh water. or B- that entire section that isn't situated near fresh water needs to get up and relocate. i mean it's a dessert area for a reason...
or C america can collectively get their head out of their asses and destroy the environment but for the use of it's residents like china is doing with it's De-desertification methods
