It's a button to "jam" the shit further down the chamber in hopes the causing gets stuck so bad your rifle is useless

That button isn't for jams idiot. It's to assist in silently closing the bolt. Ease it forward using the charging handle until it stops, then you give the forward assist a few taps to seat the bolt all the way forward.

Forward assist isn't used for clearing jams...

AR-15's are really easy to jam. Especially if you custom built it. People don't get the gas system right and it requires tuning. The gas system is still far superior to other set ups if you are in real combat and not some faggot who just goes to the range and complains.

Most jams in "custom" builds are due to improper buffer and bcg weight.

Given the ready availability of batteries now I'm surprised one of the major manufacturers hasn't made a rifle with an electrical feed system.
It's infinitely more reliable and surely a battery in the stock would provide enough power to cycle many more rounds than a soldier is capable of holding.

It's not like the average grunt now is being sent into the field with the expectation that no resupply or electrical power will be available for days on end.

I disagree. I have built several and it isn't as simple as just installing the tube. Over and undertuned and the ejection system will not work properly and you will get consistent jams. The best way to tune it is to look at where the ejected cartridge lands. if it is too far in front or behind you then you aren't tunned. it should eject to the side. You can also tell by the way it feels. A properly tuned gas system "feels right".

I own both an AR and AK. The AR is far more accurate and useful. The AK is extremely durable. There's a give and a take. Both platforms are excellent.
