He's right. Anything built within the past 20 years is almost always standard wood construction with a brick or stone veneer over it. Most of the time they don't even do the whole house, but just highly the entrance way, garage, foundation, or a feature of the house. Sometimes they just do the front and the sides and back are siding because it's expensive.

It's true. Something always looks off with the depth and proportions of fake brick/stone. A real brick house has a certain square/cubical (or rectangle) shape to it. When the proportions look off, it's obviously wood framed and the faux masonry is glued on after.
