The average person back then did not actually think that. I had family from Czechoslovakia and their grandparents would reminisce about how booming the country was during the German occupation. Then the Russians came who were supposed to be the ‘good guys’ but they only raped and looted.
Most Europeans back then also openly despised the jews because the jews were a lot more open about their ways before WWII.
However, this history is not recorded because it is true that history is written by the victors. The honest accounts that did exist are being purged when found and the people who lived back then and could tell the truth have died out by now.
