Your false equivalencies are inane and puerile. COVID (SARS-Cov2) actually killed people. Millions died from the novel coronavirus. Monkeypox (MPXV) on the other hand, has just a handful of reported deaths among the severely immunocompromised.
The bigger issue here is that MPXV is going to be (rightly and justly) renamed by both the World Health Organization and the International Committee on the Taxonomy of Viruses. The subtle racism of the name itself is a bigger threat to our communities than the few issues that the virus actually causes. The LGBTQIAABIPoC community is under constant assault from racist and heteronormativity on a constant basis, and changing the MPXV name is a restorative step in the right direction.
