LatAm here my family was here before so called Mexican independence. We know the truth. Mexico literally redistributed the wealth from within. From the people that weren't politically aligned, and the poor, with the powers to those that were. Mexico banned slavery while permitting life long indentured servitude. Permitting these contracts to those that were in power. This was a great combo that created the Mexican serf state and created the lowest individual property ownership and the highest per capita of intentured servitude ever known to the Americas. It wasn't just the territories to the north that broke away from EUM but islands and territories to the south.
