At least every 5th Russian has a family member that had died or suffered during WW2, which made the victory so powerful. It was a common tradegy that has ended in common glee. And the red Victory Banner represents just that. Some people say that celebrating Victory Day is redundant and we should stop doing so, focusing more on the new accomplishment rather than awe for the old ones. I can understand them, but at the moment there is no common glee with such gravitational pull. Maybe there will be.
