Debating isn't about engaging with the other side honestly. It's a game to win the complacency of the masses. The complacency of the masses with violence from a certain group (for instance the establishment and police) is what allows for their tyranny. All debate is propaganda, those who win the debates gain implicit authority from the masses. First, from those interested spectators, the weak men of words that lack creativity; they then influence the uninterested masses through their roll as "smart" members of society.
Might isn't "right" because any given group that exerts might will immediately be overwhelmed by the general masses of all other groups; unless they first lay the ideological groundwork to induce complacency to their might in the general public. This wasn't always true, with early analog communication and information networks information moved slower and the predominant feedback mechanisms were different. Now in a digital world of effectively instantaneous mass communication complacency with a groups violence (also called "having authority") has to come first.
