The Bible

What's the best version of the Bible to read for a complete beginner who has never read so much as a single passage of it?

I'm more interested in modern translations that try to make it more digestible to a modern reader, I know lots of people will say the King James version is the only version, but there have been many translations since that have been well reviewed by biblical scholars, so I'd like to try one of the newer ones.

I'm interested in the apocrypha as well. Correct me if I'm full of shit, but the Greeks and the Syrians and the Copts all include stuff in their bibles that's not in the King James version right? I'm curious if there are any modern translations that include as much of that stuff as possible.

I've been curious about attending Sunday church at one of the various churches in my town just for the experience, but I figure I should at least read the good book first.

I hear good things about the Jehovas Witness version of the bible, as well as a few other versions, but I figure someone on here must be vastly more knowledgeable about this stuff than I am, all I've done is read a few Wikipedia articles.

Checked, FPBP
Authorized 1611 KJV + Apocrypha.
The only other good one would be the Douray-Rheims Catholic bible.

All Apocrypha that would be anything decent was found in the Nam Hammadi scrolls in Ethiopia. Consider a lot of it additional study. AKJV has proper and distinct ways of enunciating names and words that would otherwise be foreign to the English tongue, making it easy to understand.

All modern translations are picked and pulled, removing context and adding Jewish worship like with the Scofield commentary (which has become standard.)

Would the Eastern/Greek Orthodox version be the same as the 1611?

KJV only. Here's why:

ISAIAH 55
6 Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near.

7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.

9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

PSALM 103
8 The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.

10 He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.

11 For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him.

12 As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.

13 Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him.

14 For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.

ROMANS 4
3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

4 Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.

5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

6 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,

7 Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.

8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

ROMANS 10
8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

For cutting your teeth NLT but try to read KJV ESV NKJV when looking at advanced topics.

Jesus was a republican, and also King James Bible

Read the original texts, otherwise you are reading an interpretation of the word of God, also don't blindly follow what your priest says, remember that you should fallow God's teachings, not the ones of a fat pedophile kike lover

>Authorized 1611 KJV + Apocrypha.

Can you link me an Amazon USA listing for it? I searched and there are a bunch of listings but they all seem weird.

In descending order

Bullshit, English is the best vehicle to learn the word of God.

2Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

What is "all scripture" then?

There are some things in the NT that refer to Apocrypha.

KJV can be difficult to read so I recommend getting an NIV in conjunction with the KJV. I read the NIV first then the KJV. The NIV is more plain English which helps me get what's going on then I read the KJV for the actual meat and potatoes of the verses

I don't think it matters too much but when you read The Bible and you come to some verse that makes you cringe or seems out of place, just look up different translations of that verse online. Most Bibles I've read have footnotes that give other translations too.

Why don't you ask your discord, since you're all coordinating this thread and post it multiple times a week.

KJV only. Anyone else is deceiving you.
