You have to admit he's got a point. The only way the GOP is going to be a viable political party is a return to compassionate conservatism, what was often called 'The Republican Way'. Musk has gone on the record as saying Biden's victory was really because everyone was 'tired of Trump'. In 2024 things need to change. We need a candidate who reminds old cold warriors of the glory days of the Bush era, as well as bringing in those to our immediate left, the wishy washy liberals who were turned off by Trump's brash rhetoric.
A Glenn Youngkin type figure could make serious headway on a ticket like that. What say you?

It's a good question. I think 'compassionate conservatism' means being able to see the humanity in people of different political persuasions. It means being able to empathize with people who think differently than you do, because we all do, even those of us in the center. We don't all think alike, which is the best part of the democratic process. I'll give you a specific example. I remember way back in the old days of 2006, it seems strange now but the number of conservatives I saw on MSNBC as guests was much higher than now, but there was real discussion there. That's in contrast to the hardliners, like Rush Limbaugh for instance, he was a Bushite through and through but acted like everyone who wasn't a conservative was an evil liberal. That is not the case, of course, because America is diverse and tolerant. But that group thought their political opponents were out to get them, that they hated America. That's the way it was from 2004 until about 2008. And then came the housing bubble. And then came the election of the first black president. And then, came the recession
I still remember seeing Sarah Palin and John McCain on stage ranting about 'communists'. Does that really do anyone any good?
When I look at the people who were in those days of more common sense and reasoned discourse I think of how far we have fallen today. I heard a man call into the radio just a few days ago. I don't recall his name but that's not the point. But he was being interviewed in the aftermath of the shooting and she made a very powerful point. He said, "We want a dialogue, but we want to have a dialogue. We want to talk about issues, but we don't want to fight with each other. We don't want to hurt each other." That's the part that some conservatives and liberals sadly fail to understand, and it wasn't always that way, that's what I think the phrase means user.

Stealing 2020 in an extremely blatant manner and then rubbing it in everyone's face killed compassionate conservatism stone dead. They proved themselves truly evil. Now it's war.
