Yamamoto was a great man. A consummate professional, the best officer in the entire Japanese Empire. Assassinating him was the best way to quickly cripple the enemy, but it was a tragedy and a shame. Without a hubristic government forcing a confrontation with the US, Yamamoto could have secured a much better future for the Japanese people.
