What I find most interesting about Canada's problems is that immigration didn't fix it. Everyone was hoping that population growth = economic growth, and yet the most immigrant eager country is last place in OECD metrics. Even Japan which has a more acute demographic crisis and less immigration is going to out compete us this decade because they focused on technological development. It also shows that importing high IQ people isn't enough to spur economic growth. Canada's immigration system selects people based on wealth, the ability to integrate into the economy, and credentials; all 3 elements are positively influenced by intelligence. Most of our immigration for the past few decades were Filipino nurses and trades people, and rich/intelligent Indians and Chinese people. Even with their credentials and money were still falling behind. It looks like the most productive group out of the 3 that I mentioned were Filipinos since they try to do real work instead of Real Estate speculation and white collar managerial labor.
