I agree, only because I also have $18k remaining. Although the proposal to cap interest rates is objectively the best, it is absolutely retarded to have student loan interest rates above 5%. I'm fine with eliminating interest rates after a certain amount of time as well. I have a decent job and had less than $30k to begin with, it seems impossible for people with useless degrees to ever pay back what they borrowed at high rates.
Fuck $50k in forgiveness, it is absolute bullshit to everyone who didn't take out a loan or who paid it back, the voter backlash from everyone missing out would crush the Dems.

Private loans are different than the federal loans. This is made perfectly clear when you signed the dotted line.
The only thing the gubmint can realistically do is change the rules for future loans. End result will be a lack of lenders. Why bother extending your cash reserves into a loan program with no discernable gain. They'd be better off opening a new trading algorithm.
